Why do children and young people today have no respect for authority? Because they haven't been taught it in the home. Many parents live such immoral lives that they cannot gain the respect of their children. But children brought up in the community of God's people should be learning to respect authority. Paul is addressing the congregation in Ephesus and would have known the children that would hear his letter.
1. The obligation children must recognise
2. Nearly every day we take off our clothes which need a wash and in the morning put on ones that are fresh. When we are born again the same thing happens. We are continually putting of our old life of sin and doning a new life of righteousness. We have an enemy who is out to oppose but we also have a friend to help and stimulate us. This passage presents us with a number of challenges which have a common theme - relationships.
1. Speak truthfully
2. Desist from sinful anger
3. We take many things for granted like light and heat. In the spiritual realm it is no different. We undervalue the power of God and many have little concept of it. It is so great that it cannot be compared to anything and it is because of this power that our christian future won't be disappointed. Paul shows the power of God to be evident in -
1. The resurrection of Christ
2. The exaltation of Christ
3. The headship of Christ
